Fantastic Large Selection of Christmas Designs

[[VIDEOID:dd7094901955fefdf483c532ea53785f]]This is my first coloring book by Penny Farthing Graphics. They are published via CreateSpace which is generally used for self-publishing. The designs are drawn by a variety of artists from all over the world and are licensed via Shutterstock.com. What we end up with is a great coloring book (although on thin paper) with a large and varied selection of designs.

There are 60 coloring images in this book. I'm happy with the variety and the way the designs are printed on the page. Every one of them is complete rather than running off the page. If a design is stopped, it is stopped with a frame which gives me a defined end to the item I am coloring even if it is not “complete” within the picture (e.g., half of a stocking, ornament, wreath, etc.) The editors of the book have done a great job with their selection, including all the symbols I think of for Christmas, such as: Christmas Trees, Santa, ornaments, stocking, nutcrackers, fireplaces, snowman, candles and much more.

The pages are printed on thin white paper which is not perforated. The designs are printed on one side of the page with the back left blank. The designs stop well short of the binding and can easily be removed with a pen knife if you so choose.

My gel pens and markers all leaked through this paper. Not a problem, though, as I can put a piece of chipboard or a couple of heavy weight pieces of paper under the page I am working on to keep the ink from leaking through.

I am really looking forward to coloring in this book. I'm also really pleased that CreateSpace is offering an avenue for artists (or groups of artists) to self-publish their designs. It gives us, as colorists, a much greater choice.

This is the Book I am using for my Christmas coloring party! Filled with 60 Christmas illustrations & printed one per page.

This book is not for every colorist, but if you love coloring a variety of illustrations in a variety of art styles this book might be just the one you are looking for. You will find many intricately detailed patterns filled with the best loved Christmas symbols, adorned Christmas trees, a whimsical snowman who is simply detailed but charming, add in Toy Soldiers standing in a row, Stockings hung with care on the mantel, Gifts wrapped in colorful paper and adorned with festive bows, Snowflakes, Candy Canes , and so many more in this huge book with its 60 pages of Christmas just waiting for you to add color and your own personal art style to bring them to life.

The cover picture is included in the book and is representative of many of the other images.

This is the book I am using for my Christmas coloring party this year; I know everyone will find a picture they love. There is only one illustration in this book I do not care for. WOW that is out of 60 illustrations.

1. 60 illustrations printed one per page (the back of each page is blank) on medium weight bright white paper

2. All my markers bleed through the pages, I just place a sheet of paper under the page I am coloring to prevent damage to the next picture if I am using markers.

3. Most of the images include many small details, with a few less detailed for variety so Ultra Fine Markers, and Colored pencils are my coloring medium of choice for this book.

4. All images are centered on each page and end ¼ inch to ½ inch from all the edges including the edge with the binding.

a. This leaves enough room to easily color each illustration in its entirety.

b. This leaves enough room to remove the pages with a box knife, my preferred method; I use a ruler, a box knife and place a piece of cardboard under the page to prevent cutting the next page.

c. This is enough room to take this book to an office supply store and have them cut the binding off, to release all the pages from the book. This gives you individual pages for your coloring party, coloring club, plus a wonderful choice to donate the images to seniors in assisted living housing, and perfect for students.

5. The author’s have spent days searching the works of many artists with care, chosen the best and brought them to you in this wonderful collection of Christmas illustrations. The images have been purchased under license from Shutterstock.com. This means that when you purchase this book you are supporting not one but many individual artists, from all over the world who post their images for purchase on the web and do not publish their own coloring books.

There are a lot of "self-help" and "how-to" books on the market, but this book is different. Written in a easy to understnad format with a little humor, this book tells you how you can succeed.
Whether you want to meet with your supervisor and ask for a raise or secure funding for your idea or invention from a room full of directors, the methods presented in this book will work for you.

A good book for both technical and business professional

This book addresses a critical need in technical companies. Often the management is very knowledgeable about financial, marketing and similar items. The technical contributor is often very skilled in seeing technical needs and how to solve them. The language of the two sides is significantly different. Often each cannot understand the other. This may not be obvious to the outsider, but it is a major problem.
A business opportunity may be missed by the business professional. The technical person may not understand how to even explain the possibilities to their boss. This book aims to bridge this gap. Both the business and technical person can benefit. The book identifies the gap.
The author has a good experience with seeing both sides of the argument. If you work in a technical environment, you owe it to yourself and your career to give the book a second look.

This is a book you can use in your personal life as well as your professional. I could hear Dr. Givens' voice speaking his recommendations and advice for my particular circumstances while I was reading his book. His keen insight into what really motivates decision makers and how to touch and influence that aspect as a skill, is what is unique about his book. This is the book that really lets one "cross the chasm". So important, that I bought a copy for my niece who is starting out her professional life.

May Shatter Some Illusions

Once I started reading I could not stop although if your memories of David are of a sweet faced butter wouldn't melt in your mouth type, this book may shatter some of those illusions. (My friend who read it at the same time was stunned!) However, I admire David's complete honesty in saying the truth of what it really was like to be "an idol" in the seventies and his relationship with Susan Dey (well we did always wonder). I wish he had expanded more on life after he retired from the world of pop in the 70s but the title of the book does suggest his time on "the Partridge Family Bus". It was quite an insight into how lonely life at the top can really be (and not necessarily financially secure). There were quite a few similarities in his story to that of Donny Osmond - fame, adulation and then zip! (Oh how fickle people are)If you were a big David Cassidy fan in the 70s you may be amazed at what he was really like but in reading this book I can only admire his courage for being so honest and it is an interesting (to say the least) book to read.

For real fans only

If you are a fan of David Cassidy and really want to get inside the head and heart of the man, this is the book for you. If you want cute stories about being in the Partridge Family, forget it.

Why? Because Cassidy does a wonderful job of really taking you in his world as seen through his eyes. The tone of voice of this book changes with each era of his life that he is depicting. He discusses his sad, lost childhood of misbehavior and way too early sexual experinces sounding like kid still trying to justify neglect as a good thing. Then you really feel his enormous stress and overwork as a teen idol. When he talks about his "love" live, he takes the bragging tone of an adolescent schoolboy. After the show ends, he discusses his life using words that make you really feel his dragging depression and finally ends with the calm tone of someone who has come to a level of peace with his life. I like his writing style but it isn't for the weak of stomach. More of a rollercoaster ride.

Ironically, he brags about his sex life in such a way that you just end up feeling really, really sorry for him. I think he truly sees having bonked so many women as his big achievement during these years. But he sounds so immature, you realize he's almost got a bell jar effect going on in his sex life, possibly from losing his virginity so young.

The only other low point is that there are no pictures included of any of the other main people in his life except for one of him and Susan Dey together. None of his friends, none of his family -- not even one of his mentor and agent. Is he really that all alone or does he feel his looks are still all he has to sell? Overall though, a good summer read.

This is an excellent book. I learned a lot from this book, I and was glad David Cassidy is open and honest. I was a fan of David's when I was a kid, and I find myself renewing my admiration.

Excellent view of the Milwaukee Art Museum

I was struck in awe by the Milwaukee Art Museum as I was wallking towards it on Wisconsin Avenue. I had never been met with such a magnificent structure before in my life. There are so many angles you can admire it from, and each angle affords you a totally different perspective. The first time I saw it, it reminded me of a whale's tail as it is diving into the ocean. From another angle, it's a majestic ship sailing in Lake Michigan. This book is a great collection of pictures of the museum structure. I bought it as a souvenir of my visit there. The photographs don't do it justice 100%, but it's a wonderful reminder of the infinite possibilities of engineering and art. It's a perfect coffee table book gift for artists and non-artists alike.

I bought this for my 04 XC90 after being told a repair at the dealer would cost me upwards of $900! That was a price I couldn't justify paying when the part was only $100. That being said, I found this manual sold by Ripple Books and let me say....what a lifesaver! $1540 plus s&h, I stuck that repair bill to the dealer

Awesome for the hardcore Arts & Crafts Woodworker

If you are a woodworker even remotely interested in the Arts & Crafts movement (Stickley, Greene & Greene, etc.) then you know Darrell is at the top of this craft. As a professional woodworker, teacher and author he demonstrates extremely high quality designs and details that exemplify this style. I'm honestly blown away by the level of detail in this book. I bought it on pre-order without knowing what to expect. And while Darrell doesn't go into great detail on some of the more simple and common elements of G&G furniture (through tennon, cloud lift, etc), these are covered in other books (including his) and resources and you'll already have experience with them if you're tackling the details in this book. He does include a section on making square ebony plugs, though.

"In the Greene & Greene Style: Projects and Details for the Woodworker" goes further into the how-to of some of Darrell's outstanding (and a couple unique/adapted) design elements by not only giving a description and photos , but actually dimensional drawings of the details, jigs to fabricate them, and step-by-step process of doing so. It's clear Darrell has learned from a lot of trial-and-error and is trying to get us up the learning curve faster so we can continue this beautiful style of furniture. Looking at photos of a finished piece, I wouldn't have expected this incredible detail was warranted but after reading it I think every one of the G&G details is presented with a necessary level of information to be duplicated by an interested woodworker.

Peart is a Master

I have both of Darrell Peart's books now...I think he has only two. Anyhow, this book is a perfect sequel to his first which was a masterpiece in Greene & Greene craftsmanship. First, I must say that I LOVE and have built many G&G pieced of furniture. I am an amateur woodworker and have built the furniture only for my family (6 children and 16 grandchildren). Actually, I have become quite good at the art. However, Peart's first book and now this one have opened my eyes to techniques and methods that have made my work MUCH MORE professional and, in some cases, saved time. Both books are very well illustrated and written. They are very nice "how to" books but also provide some of the history and development of the G&G style. If you like or produce Arts & Crafts furniture, you will LOVE both of Peart's books.

This is the second book I've purchased written by Darrell about Greene and Greene furniture construction. Both of Darrell's books were an invaluable resource for me as I designed and built an entertainment center in the Greene and Greene style. This book does a deeper dive into some of Darrell's techniques for embellishing your furniture. His writing style is concise, and he shares his many years of experience in this style. I highly recommend the book to any furniture maker thinking of exploring the Greene and Greene style. My only regret is that I purchased an electronic copy for my Kindle. That was a mistake because there are some books that really don't work well in the electronic format. Buy a printed copy.

About the Author
James Bastien was born in Bellingham, Washington, on April 10, 1934. His father, Clarence, was musical and played the violin. His mother, Dorothy, was a writer and a high school Latin and journalism instructor. After living in Seattle and Florida, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, where Jim began his piano studies with Frances Mulkey North. Subsequently, Jim studied with the late Ariel Rubstein, the late Louis Artau, and the late Gyorgy Sandor.

Jim received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University. He was a former member of the faculties of Notre Dame University, Tulane University, Loyola University (New Orleans), and the summer faculties of Tanglewood and the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan.

Jim met his wife Jane Smisor in New Orleans in 1960. They performed as the duo-piano team, Smisor and Bastien. In addition, Jim was a Columbia Artist accompanist whose collaborative career included appearances with Richard Tucker and John Alexander. During this time Jim and Jane started writing music to address the needs of their students. This was the beginning of the Bastien piano books that have inspired so many piano students and teachers.

The Bastien piano books have been published worldwide by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company since 1963 and are now translated into 14 languages. In 1999, The Music Teachers National Association presented Jim and Jane with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the association's highest honor, in recognition of their outstanding career in music and contribution to the music profession.

James W. Bastien, loving husband and father, and a passionate piano pedagogue and musician, passed away on December 7, 2005, in La Jolla, California. During his long career, Jim became internationally known through his contributions to piano teaching, composing, writing, adjudication, and performing. With more than 300 publications to his credit, the Bastien name has become synonymous with innovative piano pedagogy.

Excellent technic exercises for the older level 3 piano student ...

Excellent technic exercises for the older level 3 piano student (ages 10+). This method focuses heavily on chord development- including inversions. Exercises are fun, upbeat, and never tedious. They are repetitive enough to get the concept mastered, with adequate practice time. I recommend this for my students who are interested in playing jazz, hymns, pop accompaniment music, and movie themes. The technics in this curriculum do not focus heavily on classical- so you will need to supplement appropriately. Students will also need to be able to reach an octave.
