John Devries, is the founder of Mission India, a Christian organization dedicated to transforming India for Christ in partnership with Indian beleivers through Children's Bible clubs, adult literacy classes, and church planter training. While the book does display the Mission India logo on the back cover and contains a few references to mission work in India, Why Give? stays clear of sounding anything remotely like a commercial for the organization, and instead stands on its own as a fresh, practical, and inspirational look at Biblical stewardship. The Impact of Why Give? During June of 2010, our church was facing a $400,000 projected deficit for our fiscal budget year ending September 2010. In June, our pastor shared with the church the issue of the deficit without any planned campaign of reduction. During July and August we developed a plan to disciple the church on stewardship without any plea to reduce the deficit. Part of the discipleship plan was to give every family a copy of this book. We asked each family to read the book and to pray about the stewardship of God's resources. A miracle took place! By the end of September, at the close of our fiscal budget, we had an $800,000 surplus. We thought this may be a response to the crisis, and the giving level would diminish soon afterwards, but this was not the case. Good Devotional book.

I have learned a lot about the joy of giving from this book. The author is a good writer and has a good insight about Christian giving.
