Excellent!!!

This is an excellent series.  Each book has been wonderful to read and I am so glad this will be a continuing saga. It is great to read about past characters and see how their lives are progressing and also wonderful to be introduced to new characters and seen how their life goes on.  The romantic scenes are well written and very sensual. That said, it is the storyline itself that grips my attention.   Against the different problems that have occurred, one sees how they are resolved and/or the ongoing struggle to be resolved. I find these stories to be inspiring and hopeful.  I look forward to reading all future stories and recommend them for everyone who likes this genre.

When a family member dies, sometimes secrets come out that may surprise family members. Vanessa is brokenhearted over the death of her brother, Tony. The two of them have been together for a while. They are not just brother and sister, but best friends. They share everything together. So it comes as a surprise to find out her brother had a secret life with a full set of other friends. When it comes to light the common thread is a kinky lifestyle, Vanessa is intrigued. With Tony gone, Vanessa feels all alone until his other friends adopt her.

This is what makes the series so good. This sense of family and bonding through mutual respect and enjoyment of kinky sex is a hard to come by commodity. This insta-family to help Vanessa grieve is a pleasure to read about. It's also nice to see how the "kinky" family doesn't take over the vanilla side of Vanessa's remaining family. Tilly and the clan are able to keep it on the down low yet still make sure those who knew Tony in the lifestyle can also provide their condolences.

Vanessa also experiences a birth through this death. She learns that she is even more similar to her brother than she thought. In addition, she meets the two men who were thinking of taking the next step with him. Reed and Lyle were going to invite Tony into their relationship as a third. As they support Vanessa through her loss, she grows closer to them. I have to say, this is an odd but plausible situation Ms. Dalton creates. In some sense it is disturbing that Reed and Lyle could have been introduced to Vanessa as her brother's boyfriends. Now, they are her boyfriends.

The BDSM in this story is a pleasurable experience as expected with Ms. Dalton. It's nice to see the introduction of a newbie into the lifestyle. Ms. Dalton excels at showing how all types of people can join the lifestyle from different ways. The destination is the same no matter the road they take--they find their way home to where they feel accepted. This story of loss balanced by new beginnings is recommended to menage lovers who enjoy kink.

3.5 stars - devastating loss opens the door to new love

Vanessa is reeling from the sudden death of her beloved older brother. She's a person who sticks to non emotional things like work instead of friends so the loss of her brother completely upends her world. She thought she knew everything about him, that they kept no secrets from each other. But Tony had a second life, his authentic life, as 'Basco a member of the BDSM society. Vanessa discovers this as she's going through his things. So she sets out to meet the people that helped him feel fulfilled in his life. And thus begins her unexpected journey into the world of BDSM. Once there she meets Lyle and Reed, a committed pair that often played with her brother. They take her under their wing and help her through her grief. Sparks fly and a romance quickly ensues. For a second I thought that this was going to be a Kaden-esque story like in the Reluctant Dom (her best work) where 'Basco saw his sister with these two men. But that's not what happened because Basco didn't know he was dying...he kind of wanted these men for himself and they kind of wanted him. So, for me, the sudden romance between Vanessa was a bit uncomfortable. It's probably because Vanessa's interest in BDSM didn't feel real to me. I know this books message was go with the flow, take time to enjoy and don't try to put labels on things, but I get the feeling that when she wakes up from her grief, this lifestyle may not appeal to her. Spoiler alert: by the end she is a full-on slave wearing their collar. I know that people often make huge changes in their lives when major events happen - Basco was Vanessa's wake up call just as Kaden's death was Basco's - but I think I would have preferred they become new brothers instead of love interests.

"Japanese apologies are more apt to communicate submissiveness, humility, and meekness whereas Americans are more apt to communicate sincerity," writes Lazare, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Under the surface of their differing presentations, however, in spite of their length or even sometimes their complete wordlessness, all true apologies are a kind of offering intended to restore the dignity and self-respect of the offended party, according to the author. An apology can work a miracle, inspiring spontaneous generosity and forgiveness on the part of the offended, whether it is a whole people or a single individual. Drawing on a vast array of literary and real-life examples, such as Agamemnon, George Patton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, from the current pope to the machinist who approached him after a lecture, Lazare lucidly dissects the process of apology: offering an explanation; communicating remorse, shame, humility or sincerity (according to our cultural values); making a gesture of reparation or reconciliation. Among the most moving examples in the book is Lincoln's second inaugural address, in which he apologizes for American slavery : "two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil" enabling some to "wring their bread from the sweat of other men's faces." Just as breathtaking was the apology made by Kevin Gover, an assistant secretary of Indian affairs, for that agency's grave crimes against the Indian people. An astonishingly interesting study of one of the most profound human interactions

Others have reviewed some of the specific details of the book so rather than repeat the same information, let me focus on what I found most useful.

While the parts of apology were interesting what I found most profound was the section on why apologies sometimes fail. It was enlightening to understand that an apology is not always a one time request for forgiveness, but often the opening of a negotiation between the parties. For example: When someone had hurt or betrayed us we need to understand that we really do share the same values otherwise we can't trust them and restore the friendship. Also the examples of failed apologies and how they can make thing worse than saying nothing and who amoung us has not recieved an insulting apology that hurt rather than healed.

I found myself mentally placing people I know into different situations portrayed in the book and could easly see why certain friends reacted the way they did to each other. I think you will do the same.

On apology is an invaluable tool in improving your own apologies and in understanding others. Be forewarned, you will never look at apologies the same again, never offer another flipant "I'm sorry" and never again accept one.

A honest and thoughtful book for those who really want to understand this most profound an potentially healing human interaction.

The missing link for forgiveness

So much has been written in recent years about the need for forgiveness. In Dr. Lazare's groundbreaking book, he points out how so little has been written about apology (his is only the second book devoted to this subject to be published in the past decade!), and yet a sincere and honest apology is essential for complete forgiveness. It is one of the main reasons so many of us hold on to grudges for years. We cannot fully forgive without this missing piece of the puzzle.

Dr. Lazare beautifully explains the differences between a "false apology" and a true apology, why people (and groups and nations) have difficulty apologizing, what constitutes a satisfying apology, and what rewards both parties (the offended party and the offender) can get from an honest apology. Dr. Lazare has done his research -- there are extensive references throughout, and the book leans toward the scholarly side. Yet it is well-written, thoughtful, and personable, and the author often interjects a few engaging stories about his own direct experiences with the subject, making the writing warm and personalized.

This is a book everyone should read -- parents, spouses, children, siblings, employers, employees, managers, leaders, politicians, teachers, physicians, healthcare workers, and attorneys. The art of apology should be an integral component of conflict resolution, mediation, and restorative justice. For those who have been injured or offended by the deliberate or unintentional actions of other people (and that pretty much includes all of us), real healing cannot begin until we receive the sincere apology we need and crave. For those who have injured or offended others (again, that pretty much includes all of us), we can't begin our own healing process without completing the full requirements of a sincere apology.

This book is a testament to how the seemingly simple act of apology can heal centuries-old wounds, bridge cultural and international misunderstandings, dissolve bitterness and resentment, and restore relationships of every kind. This is a book you will want everyone you know to read, and one that you will remember the contents of long after you close the covers.

Easy to follow and apply.

I bought this book while it is on kindle promotion.

As the author of a set of parenting ebooks myself, it's been refreshing to read this book. Iovana gives clear and concise examples throughout this book and I felt myself agreeing completely with most of what she has written. She has made it easy for any parent to recognise where he or she can improve his or her parenting skills.

The book is a short and comfortable read and I suggest, that for this reason, parents read through this book every now and again to solidify the skills offered here. I will go as far as to say that, if you follow the advice offered in this book and you don't feel you are getting results, it will only be because you haven't been able to be consistent enough. Hang in there it is more that worth it.

It's really hard to rise discipline child this time. Especially, if you have not any proven strategy or system how to do it. This parenting book provides a great examples, that can help you build this system. You will find, that it's really simple to raise autonomous and cooperative children, that will love you and will be thankful in the future.

A Must Read Guide for Parenting

My husband recommended me this book because sometime I get overwhelmed while dealing with my 3 kids who are all under 9.

1. Do you unintentionally attach label to your kids which dictates their behavior, actions, thinking, emotions, etc?
2. Do you want to learn an eye-opening focus on the common and harmful ways parents talk to and disciple their little ones?
3. Do you want to know what could be your alternatives to yelling and punishment?

Well then this is the book that answers all your concerns in effective and efficient manner. My favorite part of the book is 20 rules that parents need to follow for loving and gentle authority.

This book helped me develop some strong insights and confidence with its ready implement suggestions while dealing with many known situations as a mother of three I have to face on daily basis.

About the Author
Ismaiel Aldean is an Iraqi native who qualified from Baghdad Medical School before completing his Surgical training in the United Kingdom. There he met his Irish wife Mary and the two returned to Iraq to start their lives together, living there for 12 years. During those years, Aldean built his own hospital and was directly involved in the vicious eight-year Iraq-Iran war as a leading surgeon on the front line, where he dealt with some of the most horrific medical cases and witnessed the human tragedy of war. Due to his position in society, he interacted with top political leaders, including Saddam Hussein. These encounters gave him a rare insight into the unknown side of Saddam’s personality and the positive impression he left on the dictator was eventually the reason he made it out alive. Aldean stated that, after receiving a tip from a member of the government in 1990, he and his family left Iraq unaware of why they were being advised to leave. It was not until they landed in the U.K. that the invasion of Kuwait was announced in the media and the realization that they would never return struck home. Aldean spent the following years rebuilding a life for his family and worked at Trafford General Hospital, Manchester, for 13 years before retiring in 2010. Aldean was appointed as colorectal surgeon in 1997, served as divisional director of surgery for nine years and was awarded seven Clinical Excellence Awards for his work. During his time in Manchester, he was also appointed tutor and examiner at Manchester Medical School and examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Scotland.

A remarkable story offering a fascinating insight not only into Ismaiel's family life but also into that of the Iraqi people under the eventual ruthless dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. The reality of war, highlighted through case history examples, depicts not only the expertise of the medical staff under extreme conditions but also the resilience and courage of the injured. This story of passion and concern for family, friends and patients, from the days of privilege through to the days during which fear permeated under Hussein's stronghold on the Iraqi people, must have presented the author with heart-wrenching moments of recall when writing this well documented narrative.

An absolute must!

Being of Iranian origin and a surgical trainee I was naturally very interested and drawn to this book and I have to say that it was an absolutely incredible read!
The book tells the accounts of one mans experiences of war time Iraq whilst working as a general surgeon. Once I'd picked it up, I couldnt put it down. A truely compelling read that gives incredible insight into the struggles of man during war time. The accounts are told beautifully and succinctly and take the reader on an emotional journey whilst exposing him/her to the true horrors of war and the nature of man, both good and evil. Thoroughly recommend this!

The book gives an intimate insight into Iraq and the character of Saddam Hussein that brings a new dimension to understanding the events and history of that country since Saddam Hussein came to power.

It is also an easy and very enjoyable read. I was sorry when it came to an end!
